Deadlines

I'm a deadline-driven person. It helps organize my time when I have a deadline staring me in the face. Consequently, I'm having a hard time getting work done this week (it's spring break for us). How do you work on a paper that isn't due for another 3 weeks?

Sigh. I guess I'll have to learn. Any little tricks that people have to share would be appreciated.

I am the exact same way with deadlines.

If I'm trying to get something done ahead of time, I attempt to break it down in chunks. Or if it's a big enough writing project, I just need endless time in front of me (i.e. no time commitments to make me feel like I will have to stop at a certain point).

Beyond that.... Lock yourself in the lawbrary (or a room in your apt w/o a tv), turn off the wifi, stay away from the tv and comfortable nap-inducing couches.... chug ridiculous amounts of coffee. You can get it done.

Sharon, as the queen of getting things done way ahead of time, I will share my strategy. I usually just begin writing with first impressions of what I've just read or the topic I'm given. Any idea that pops into my head I write it, even if it isn't coherent with other things I've written. Then you've got three weeks to sort it all out and add the really substance to the paper. It gives you a chance to incorporate ideas you might have missed if stressed and cramming to get something down :) Just start writing!
