"This was a violation of her rights as a child, her rights as a woman, and most of all her rights as a human being, she will never be the same." said Fortunate Adem, the mother of a 7 year old girl whose father was just convicted of genital mutilation, the first such conviction in the US. The father was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
This practice, and the idea behind it, are appalling. It deprives women of sexual pleasure for life, besides causing horrible pain and infection. This man deserves more than 10 years in jail.
