Idea:

Buy a stack of postcards, put postage on them and address them to a member of the military serving overseas. Take the stack and several pens out somewhere, get people to write supportive messages on the postcards and drop them in the mail.

I did this a couple weeks ago for a friend in Iraq, and he just received the postcards. It works especially well if you hand them out in a bar -- the messages will be much more varied and entertaining. It only costs a couple dollars, it was fun to do and it will be meaningful for anyone serving away from home.

Now go and do your good deed.

1. I found your blog via the best Facebook group ever... "I judge you when you use poor grammar."

2. I think I'm going to take your fantastic idea and tweak it a bit. One of my friends has been feeling a little lonely and unloved lately, so I think I'll have everyone he knows write encouraging notes to him on blank postcards. Maybe I can even convince people to decorate one side of the postcard.

That's a great idea. I actually got the idea from my friend's parents, who did this for her when they went on vacation without her one year.
