A missile hit the US Embassy in Athens, Greece today. I studied in Athens last spring, and when we first arrived our program had us register with the Embassy. There's a huge iron gate in front with soldiers stationed by it, and to get inside you have to go underground, through two metal detectors in a security station, and then climb a staircase back up into the compound. It's almost comical to compare the heavily-fortified American Embassy to the humble office buildings around it that house the other embassies.
Although I became familiar with the Greek passion for strikes and protests, the violence was at a minimum during my semester there. Thankfully, no one was injured in this attack.
