Interview Season

It's on-campus Interview Season, and more than a baker's dozen of my classmates are in suits. Alas, I have no interviews because of the book, so I don't get to officially take part in the fun. However, I have a plan to unofficially have tons of fun with Interview Season.

The plan starts with dressing up -- business dress -- and adding one slightly nonsensical element, like a tiara or nascar hat. Or maybe some brightly-ugly-crazy colored shoes. (I own both a tiara AND a nascar hat, people. Bright, ugly shoes are not necessarily out of place in my closet.)

Be-decked in my business dress and nascar hat, I come to school. Of course, people will think I have an interview, so when they ask I reply that yes, I do in fact have an interview, and then I'll make up a silly name for the imaginary firm that so sincerely wants to employ me. McWilliams & Sonoma, perhaps. Or Bergdorf, Goodman & Galliano. They both want me pretty badly, I think.

I don't know who forgot to tell your class that they should have their hair neatly cut and do not, under any circumstances, have facial hair.

That said, it is pretty funny watching the LawTots in suits hang out in the middle of the atrium all day (especially when they don't normally hang out there).

I imagine that the oversight was on the part of those fine individuals responsible for our impending careers.

And LawTots? Is there a course for patronizing assholery or does that come as a free bonus with tuition? You gonna haze us?

Phaedrus referred to himself and his fellow currently-2L bloggers as "LawTots" last year too. Phaedrus actually teaches Patronizing Assholery as an adjunct professor. They're thinking of making it a tenured position in a few years.

Anonymous, don't take yourself so seriously. Every non-1L law student was a 1L at some point in time. 3L's make lighthearted fun of 2L's, 2L's do the same for 1L's, and 1L's will do it to next year's incoming class. Did you react the same way when you were a freshman in high school or college? Did you NEVER make fun of freshmen? Don't be so easily offended...just have fun with it.

Haha, no harm done, but thank you for your reassuring (patronizing?) words.

Offense is a funny thing, and in this case its certainly not personal - but definitely worth calling out. I'm sure Phaedrus is a lovely individual, and most of the time I want to bomb my fellow 1Ls as well.

I take the "lawtots" label with a grain of salt. I'll do the same to the ILs next year, so why not indulge in the culture this year?

Also, you think the firms want me pretty badly, right? I'm a perfect fit for McWilliams & Sonoma, at least.

The Brooks and Brooks firm (yes, they are brothers) also wants to hire you.
